Upcoming exhibitionsResonate: Drawing Sound Featuring Genevieve Fry and Jessye Wdowin-McGregor Featuring drawing, collage, video, live improvisation, and meditation, the project examines the art of sound, drawing and walking, the connection of these disciplines with our bodies and the experience of emotional resonance, healing and connectivity with our sense of place. From 1-17 February 2023, Fry will work in the gallery space, making and recording her distinctive music alongside a suite of new ‘sound drawings’.
Her starting point will be environmental sound recordings from Wdowin-McGregor's short film A Concrete Place, a poetic exploration of the everyday experience of walking along Moonee Creek during COVID-19 lockdowns. The project also takes inspiration from Fry’s abstract sound drawings, a meditative fine art practice the artist developed coming out of the pandemic. Each week, new musical collaborations/improvisations will take place onsite, and Fry and audiences will add sound drawings to the exhibition space.
During this time, Wdowin-McGregor will explore the Birrarung, a continuation of her longstanding examination of urban waterways, place and the thresholds between body and landscape. She will return to the studio space onsite each week to research, make and collaborate with Fry. From Tuesday to Saturday each week (from 2-17 February 2023), audiences will be invited to join the artists onsite for daily improvised music meditation, drawing and walking sessions. On Friday, 18 February, a finished suite of drawings by Fry and collages, photographs or research by Wdowin-McGregor will be completed and displayed until Sunday, 26 February. The works will be available for sale. To register for activities, head to our Program Page via the button below. Any monies raised will be used to engage additional musical improvisation collaborators and cover some of our material costs.
