Thank you, Merlinda Bobis, plus join our poetry workshop with Ouyang Yu 欧阳昱, a night of music with Mindy Meng Wang 王萌, the final residents’ Open House & meet our next correspondences Colleague 咏晖 Yonghui (Donna) Huang. Last Sunday, it was our honour to have award-winning novelist, poet, short story writer, dramatist and performer Merlinda Bobis with us for our latest Writer In Conversation event.
One of our most important conversational threads was about the urgency of achieving a sense of balance in contemporary storytelling - storytelling that speaks to human frailty and cruelty and our capacity for deep kindness, compassion, and love.
Thank you, Merlinda, for your deep insight and radiating kindness. At this hectic time of year and with all the pain and suffering in the world right now, we must thank you, too, our audiences, who continue to show up. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’re thrilled to have opened the final exhibit for Ekphrasis last Friday evening. This thought-provoking exhibit features new work by Ouyang Yu and Jessye Wdowin-McGregor. We’d love for you to come in and see it. This Saturday, 18 November, we are honoured to have acclaimed poet, novelist, literary scholar, editor and translator Ouyang facilitating a poetry workshop. Writers and poets of all levels are welcome. On Sunday, 26 November, we have our closing celebration for Ekphrasis, featuring an improvised sonic response to practice and shared ideas by acclaimed composer/performer Mindy Meng Wang 王萌. Finally, on Friday, 1 December, we have our final Open House with the residents before closing Ekphrasis on Saturday, 2 December. To find out more and book to join us, visit the event pages below. In closing, we are thrilled to introduce our dear friend, the talented arts worker 咏晖 Yonghui (Donna) Huang, who many of you will recognise as one of our former Interns and a member of our brilliant Volunteer team. Donna will be presenting her exhibition in December as part of our correspondences Colleagues Program. Find out more about Donna below.
