Services

Curatorial

We focus on creative projects which bring together socially engaged, situational and interdisciplinary practices to create lasting people connections across cultures.

Our creative program includes:
— an annual creative residency program featuring three artists for three months at a time each year;
— site-specific exhibitions (independently curated and co-curated);
— workshops, talks and events (for the latest events programmed, visit the Events page); and,
— special publications and prints, with leading artists from Australia and elsewhere.

Our projects aim to engage people of all ages and backgrounds in ways that stimulate, inspire and question.

Check out our Viewing Rooms, Residencies and News/Stories pages to explore our latest content generated.

Original artworks & limited edition prints

We work with our residents and collaborating artists to offer a catalogue of original artworks and fine art prints by resident artists and collaborators offered for permanent acquisition. We welcome individual collectors and organisations to get in touch.

You can browse our latest catalogue of works via correspondences Editions here.

Collection development

We work with individual collectors and organisations to develop a collection of works via our correspondences’ Cares program, our lay-by subscription/service offering a catalogue of fine artworks by resident artists and collaborators for contribution now/ acquisition (ownership) later.

We offer these works in this way because it generates greater visibility and income for the participating artists and because we think selecting, organising and caring for art is one of life's most rewarding pastimes.  This approach allows a broader range of people to afford this opportunity.

To find out more about our service/costs and browse our latest catalogue of works available, head to our correspondences Cares page here.

Community Library

Alongside our creative programming, we operate a community library service featuring works recommended by our resident artists and a curated selection of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Visitors are encouraged to read the books onsite and if they wish to borrow a title to take home, they can join our member body ‘correspondents’. For more information, head to our library page via the button below.

Hospitality & Retail

At correspondences No.39 Sydney Road, we are open daily from morning until evening for coffee, tea and biscotti. From Thursday to Saturday evening, our space becomes your local sake bar or coffee/tea house if you prefer. We focus on five to ten seated people at a time. However, we have a little space in our rear courtyard to scale up if we need.

Our retail experience focuses on books by Australian writers, selected craft, art prints and jewellery by Pasifika makers. You can also purchase lovely glassware and a bottle of one of our in-house sakes to enjoy at home.

Our aim is to slow people down and encourage deeper engagement with art, craft and elements of food culture. For our menu and hours of operation, please press the button below.

We accept via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover/Diners, Union Pay, Apple Pay and Afterpay.

Space Planning & Design

We work with individual artists, collectors and arts organisations to co-design distinctive site-specific art installations and events. Using specialised skills and software, we create spaces and experiences that allow audiences to explore unique and unfamiliar architectures and spaces afresh.

Venue Hire

Our space is available for hire for meetings, workshops, classes and special events (cocktail parties, auctions, live music performances, etc.) - day or night, except for during programmed monthly events and activities (listed on the Events page).

We work with you to design your event set-up to meet your needs while complementing the vision of our resident artists’ on-site exhibitions.

Our patrons are welcome to hire the gallery and studio space at the rear of our building. The rear courtyard is also available at no extra charge in the spring/summer/autumn months. The rate is $150 per day and $250 per evening. Once a quarter, we also invite a community group to stage an event or activity in our space for free.

We accept applications until 31/10 each year to exhibit in the space in February for two weeks at $100 per day.

Please reach out anytime at info@correspondnces.work to discuss your plans.

Art Advice

We work with individual artists and collectors to facilitate the sales and/or leasing of artworks to grace their homes and workplaces, handling everything from information gathering and personal introductions, to space design, framing, transportation, installation and clerical matters such as insurances, etc.

Publishing

We focus on monographic publications for our resident artists.

Every two to three years, we collaborate with a talented graphic designer to publish one major publication in connection with a key exhibition. Our aim is to showcase the art of design and original writing by leading artists and writers from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Project Management

In addition to curatorial programming, we work with individual artists and arts organisations to project manage studio and organisational priorities including: budgeting, installation/de-installation; and, re-design of systems and processes.
