Emma Thomson

correspondences is led by Emma Thomson. Emma holds an MA in Curation (1st) from the University of Melbourne, along with distinguished qualifications in art history and a portfolio of curatorial work working with artists and thinkers from various disciplinary backgrounds, cultures and generations.

Her recent curatorial projects have focused on artists in residence at correspondences, which can be explored on this website. Other recent major projects include Silent Dialogue / 沉默的对话, which incorporated a sound commission by award-winning vocalist, producer and multi-disciplinary artist Chunyin Rainbow Chan alongside a major exhibition and publication featuring twenty-five leading Chinese-Australian visual artists, writers and designers. In 2019, she curated and produced publications for Liu Bolin/Camouflage 刘勃麟/伪装 and Noémie Goudal / Telluris, two major monographic projects presented as part of the 2019 Ballarat International Foto Biennale.

Emma also holds degrees in Commerce and Finance and more than fifteen years of professional work experience as an experienced projects manager/advisor working across the Arts, Not-For-Profit, Government and Commerce sectors. Leveraging these skills and experience, Emma also selectively works as a freelancer with individuals, small arts businesses and organisations to:

  • design spaces for site-specific exhibitions, installations and events;

  • plan and conduct workshops, talks and events;

  • project manage various priorities, including budgeting/forecasting, and re-design systems and processes for improved efficiency.

Emma works with a variety of talented freelance workers, volunteers and partners, all vital to the success of every correspondences project. Emma lives and works on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country in Brunswick.
